What's Your Vintage Vignette Personality?

One of the things I love most about decorating with vintage treasures is how much personality they bring into our homes.

Some vintage treasures whisper romance. Others tell stories of hard work, family memories, or days gone by. And some? Well, they just make us smile. My favorites!

That's the beauty of a vintage vignette. It can be soft and sweet, wonderfully worn, full of memories, or just a little bit quirky.

So, what's your vintage vignette personality?

The Hopeless Romantic

A little lace, a few faded roses, and something delicate from another time.

This personality loves all things soft, sweet, and feminine. There's always room for one more pretty little treasure.

The Distinguished Gentleman

Rich wood, worn leather, old books, and handsome brass.

There's something wonderfully comforting about treasures that feel as though they belong in an old study or on Granddad's desk.

The Rusty & Crusty Collector

Chipped paint? Wonderful. A little rust? Even better!

This personality sees beauty in the worn, weathered, and wonderfully imperfect. Every scratch, dent, and rusty spot has a story to tell.

The Sentimental Soul

Some treasures are worth keeping simply because of the memories they hold.

Grandma's rolling pin, an old family photograph, or a handwritten recipe can bring a little piece of yesterday into our homes today.

And sometimes those are the most beautiful treasures of all.

The Whimsical Spirit

A tiny brass bird, a funny little figurine, or a bunny tucked among old books.

Not everything needs a serious purpose or a fascinating history. Sometimes we bring something home simply because it makes us happy.

And I think that's a perfectly good reason!

The Old-World Admirer

A little tarnished silver, beautiful old pottery, and the sparkle of vintage crystal.

This personality appreciates the quiet elegance of treasures that have stood the test of time.

Beautiful things don't have to be brand-new, and they certainly don't have to be perfect.

A Little Bit of Everything?

Now here's where things get interesting!

What if you love old lace and rusty tools? Delicate pink roses and dark wooden boxes? Beautiful crystal and quirky little animals?

Well, welcome to the club! When I'm putting together a vignette, I almost always start thinking about where the flowers will go. That's my Hopeless Romantic showing up! Then I think about adding a little patina, something rusty, crusty, or wonderfully worn. And before I'm finished, there's usually a little creature of some kind that finds its way into the arrangement. That's my Whimsical Spirit!

I'm definitely a mix of personalities, and I suspect many of you are, too. But no matter what treasures I bring together, there's one thing I always want my finished vignette to do — make me smile.

I don't believe our homes have to fit neatly into one decorating personality. Some of the most charming spaces are filled with an unexpected mix of treasures that simply make us happy.

After all, isn't that what decorating with joy is all about?
